Singing Essentials - Learn How to Sing

Are you an aspiring singer? Do you have what it takes to achieve that dream of becoming an amazing singer?

Research indicates that the # 1 reason why most people don't feel confident about singing is because they've gone through a bad singing experience where they've been told to just stop because they didn't have the ability to sing well. But the question is: is that reason enough for you to give up on your dream?

People usually say that good singers have had their talent with them the moment they were born into this world. Though it's true that the ability to sing well is an innate talent for awesome singing performers, it doesn't mean that it's exclusive to those people only. It's something even normal people can acquire, but through constant practice, of course.

One of the most important things you should practice is learning to breathe from your diaphragm. Mastering this technique is a must for an aspiring singer since it covers a whole lot of stuff - from breath control, to maintaining note dynamics.

Learning to breathe from your diaphragm comes with a few easy steps to follow.

1. Inhale and exhale slowly. Doing this enables you to relax the muscles of your diaphragm, which is important for breath consistency.

2. When you exhale, never try to force your abdomen to contract. Allow it to naturally move inward so your diaphragm could continue to move normally.

3. Maintain a good posture - back straight, chin parallel to the ground, chest out. Slouching is an absolute NO in this exercise - or in any singing exercise for that matter. When you don't maintain a good and relaxed posture, you disallow air to flow freely within your body, preventing you from being at your best condition.

4. Exercise this technique before every warm-up or gig.

5. Look for an ideal place for practicing. Somewhere you think you won't be bothered by anything that doesn't concern your practice sessions.

Another important thing you should develop when you're singing is to drop your jaw when you're aiming for higher notes. It's important to open your mouth properly so you can have good enunciation. This is also in line with the "singing with your diaphragm" technique.

Mastering this technique is essential for learning more advanced singing techniques. All the greats have gone through this. Test yourself everyday by taking on tougher challenges, never give up. Remember: "the thing we call failure is not the falling down, it's the staying down." - Mary Pickford.
