The Pleasure of Performance

Performance art comprises an event in which a performer or group of performers behave in a particular way for an audience. They might dance for them, sing for them, act or play musical instruments for them. Performance art is very entertaining and can range from a guy on a stage with nothing but a guitar, to a full on spectacle with beautiful sets, back-up dancers, or even fireworks. The setting of a performance is therefore of great importance to the way the audience experiences the show.

Dance:

Dance is a highly expressive way to tell a story or articulate an idea. Forms of dance such as ballet tend to tell classic stories of love and despair. However, contemporary ballet focuses much more on the music and movement. Contemporary ballet crosses over a lot with modern, jazz and hip hop dancing. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, is one of the most amazing contemporary dance companies in the world. They performed this past autumn at Sadler's Wells in London. Sadler's Wells is known for its bold collaborations with visual artists and musicians.

Opera:

Opera is a performance in which actors tell a story through song. The music is classical as are the stories. The sounds that come out of opera singers are monstrous - they can practically break glass. If you're interested in dramatic productions and powerful music than you might very well enjoy the opera, but it does tend to be something that people either love or hate. Opera theatres can be quite beautiful. Some well known ones around the world include, the Greek theatre style opera house in Verona, Italy, the National Opera House in Paris, and the Hanoi Opera House in Vietnam.

Concerts:

There are few things as raw and exciting as going to see a live concert. Everyone likes music, and going to see your favourite band perform in a big theatre or out in a field somewhere outside of the city is an unparallel experience. It's one thing to listen to someone on the radio, but it's a whole other experience to be standing in a crowd of thousands of people in front of a stage, while the sweat of your favourite lead singer flies onto you. The bands you get to see live in your lifetime will always hold a special place in your heart, and the experiences you have at their concerts will be ones you'll always remember.

Being entertained by professionals is always a treat, whether the type of performance is your thing or not.
